- רַבְּתָא, רַבְּתָה, 1) fem, of רַבָּא, q. v. 2) great city, capital. Targ. Nah. 3:8, v. infra.Gen. R. s. 1, beg. (play on אמון, Prov. 8:30) ואית … אמוןר׳ and some say, amon means the capital; אמוןר׳ כמהוכ׳ amon means capital, as we read (Nah. l. c.), ‘art thou better than No Amon? which is translated, האת …ר׳וכ׳ art thou better than Alexandria, the capital?
